Snow Drop 예찬 2 (8 년 전)

Snow Drop Praise 2 (Eight Years Ago)
Spring Comes From the Lowest Place—
It feels like I've come through a very long tunnel.
The past winter, especially long,
was persistently cold and dark.
As if to say, "Don't even hope for spring to come,"
the subzero temperatures have continued even now, well into mid-March.
Last Sunday,
I took a look around the flower bed in front of the house.
With a longing to find signs of spring,
I peered closely between the soil,
but nothing had sprouted in the bed.
Spring still seemed far away, and just as I was about to turn my head in disappointment,
I caught sight of something.
Just beyond the edge of the flower bed,
in five or six small clusters,
snow drops had bloomed.
Despite the unmelted snow still scattered around,
they had pushed through the frozen ground,
timid green leaves poking up,
and eventually, like tiny bells,
white blossoms had opened.
Is it because their flowers are as white as snow
that they were given the name "Snow Drop"?
Or is it because they bloom by pushing through the snow
that they came to be called so?
I do not know.
White buds above green leaves—
gazing at their delicate beauty,
I felt a bright light
flood into my chest.
Once again this year,
the Snow Drop, like a welcome guest,
has returned to me,
to my home.
Snow Drops
grow no taller than my index finger,
so unless one pays careful attention,
they can easily go unnoticed.
And so, to meet their eyes,
one must bow low to the ground.
I held my breath and quietly gazed at the white flower.
Through the slightly parted petals,
a faint green heart-shaped pattern appeared.
Yes, you are the messenger of spring,
bearing a message of hope in your chest,
coming to find me.
For those who do not need spring,
who have no reason to wait for it,
the Snow Drop will never reveal itself.
To those who have endured a harsh winter,
whose bodies and hearts are deeply chilled,
to those waiting for spring from the lowest place,
the Snow Drop softly whispers,
“It is spring now.”
Spring does not come with clamor,
but gently, subtly.
Only to those who long for spring,
who lower themselves to meet the earth and snow,
to those who bring their hearts close to the ground—
only to them
can spring come,
and be spring.
You, who have endured the dark and long winter—
do you wish to meet the spring?
Then choose the lowest place on the earth,
and bow down flat.
For spring comes from the lowest place,
and to the lowest ones, it finds its way.
