맨발의 청춘, 혹은 백발의 청춘

 

지난 목요일에 장모님이 병원에 입원하셨다.

아내는 장모님의 간호를 위해서 어제 오후까지 병원에 머물러야 했다.

어제 오후에 퇴원하신 장모님을 집에 모셔다 드리고

저녁에 짜장면을 먹었다.

아내와 단출한 생일 식사를 한 것이다.

 

집에 돌아와 아내도 나도

오랜만에 깊은 잠을 잘 수 있었다.

어젯밤 9 시부터 오늘 아침 5시까지 깨지도 않고 단잠을 잤다.

아내가 없으니 익숙한 내 자리에서 잠을 자도

잠을 잔 것 같지 않은 어색한 밤을 닷새나 보내고 난 오늘 아침은

구름이 잔뜩 하늘을 덮고 있었지만

기분은 그리 상쾌할 수 없었다.

 

흐린 하늘 아래 바닷가로 맨발 산책을 나섰다.

나는 카메라도, 전화기도 없이 빈 손으로 오로지 걷기 위해 바닷가로 향했다.

물이 그리 차갑지 않았다.

적당히 기분 좋은 선선함이 느껴졌다.

 

동쪽 하늘은 구름으로 덮였지만 서쪽 하늘은 열려 있었다.

미묘한 색조의 하늘이 멀리 밀려난 바다 덕분에 생긴 

물기 넉넉한 가는 모래 위에 반사되어 환상적인 풍경이 연출되었다.

 

좀처럼 사진 모델이 될 기회가 없었는데

오늘 자진해서 아내에게 부탁을 했다.

 

"여기서 점프 한 번 할 테니 사진 좀 잘 찍어줘."

 

그래서 아내가 사진을 찍었다.

예순 일곱 생일을 맞고, 하루 지난 아침에 공중으로 힘차게 날아(?) 올랐다.

청춘 하나가 공중에 떠 있다.

 

마침 가까운 바다를 지나던 돌고래 두 마리가

물밖으로 꼬리를 내밀고 인사를 했다.

 

"맨발의 청춘"은 1964년에 개봉한 한국 영화로, 한국 청춘 영화의 대표작 중 하나입니다. 감독은 김기덕이며, 신성일과 엄앵란이 주연을 맡았습니다. 이 영화는 당시 젊은 세대의 방황과 사랑, 사회적 갈등을 그린 작품으로, 1960년대 한국 청춘 문화를 상징하는 작품으로 꼽힙니다.

Last Thursday, my mother-in-law was admitted to the hospital.

My wife had to stay at the hospital until yesterday afternoon to care for her.

After bringing my mother-in-law home from the hospital yesterday afternoon, we had jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) for dinner.

It was a simple birthday meal with just my wife and me.

When we returned home, both my wife and I finally had a good night's sleep after a long time.

From 9 p.m. last night to 5 a.m. this morning, we slept deeply without waking.

For the past five nights, without my wife, even sleeping in my familiar spot felt strange, as if I hadn’t really slept at all.

Though the sky was covered in clouds this morning, my mood was not as refreshed as it could have been.

Under the cloudy sky, I set out for a barefoot walk by the beach.

Without a camera or a phone, I headed to the beach with nothing in hand but the intention to walk.

The water wasn't too cold.

It had just the right amount of refreshing coolness.

The eastern sky was covered with clouds, but the western sky was open.

The delicate hues of the sky, combined with the distant sea, created a fantastic scene reflected on the wet, fine sand.

It’s rare that I get a chance to be a photo model, but today I asked my wife.

"I'll take a jump here—please get a good shot."

So, my wife took the photo.

On the morning after my sixty-seventh birthday, I leaped into the air with vigor.

One youth, whether "Barefoot Youth" or "Silver-haired Youth," was floating in the air.

Just then, two dolphins passing by the nearby sea greeted us, playfully lifting their tails out of the water.
