Shoveling Snow 2 (many years ago)
A few years ago, about a week or two before Christmas, a heavy snowstorm hit.
On a Sunday morning, after the snow had stopped and sunlight peeked through the clouds, my son and I went out to clear the snow.
As we were almost done shoveling the snow piled up on the driveway, a sudden idea struck me.
In one corner of the driveway where car tires wouldn’t pass, I decided to carve a heart-shaped relief out of the snow, clearing away the rest completely.
A white snow relief emerged on the black asphalt.
I added more snow on top and packed it down firmly to create a sturdy sculpture.
Then, I told my son to go inside and inform his mom, “Dad’s Christmas card has arrived.”
A little while later, my wife came out with our faithful messenger.
To her, I “dedicated” the heart-shaped snow relief, likely the largest card she’d ever received in her life.
Seeing it, my wife rolled her eyes and said, “Stop wasting time and come in for lunch.”
But her expression was so charming.
That night, my wife and I raised the curtains in the living room to look outside.
The moon was unusually bright in the sky, and the heart sculpture on the driveway glowed white, like pure silver.
It felt as though somewhere between heaven and earth, there was a giant magnifying glass.
How else could the snow appear so luminous in the middle of the night?
It was as if every ray of moonlight passing through that magnifying glass poured solely onto the heart I had made, glowing so white and bright.
