집에 돌아오다

집에 돌아오다

뉴욕에서 몬나나까지 국립공원 몇 군데를 들려서

어제 오후에 집에 돌아왔다.

피곤한 마련에 깊은 잠에 빠졌다.

아침에 일어나니 흐린 하늘 사이로 실눈을 뜬 것처럼 해가 떠오르고 있었다.

 

"산책 나갈까요?"

 

아내의 제안에 성큼 산책길에 나섰다.

보드워크에는 여행을 떠나기 전보다 사람들의 수가 눈에 띄게 줄었다.

떠날 때는 여름이 채 떠나지 않았는데 집에 돌아오니 이미 여름의 흔적은 사라졌다.

사람들이 떠나간 바닷가는 아주 정갈했다.

 

Rockaway Roasting에 들러 늘 그러하듯 커피와 크로아쌍을  주문해서 

아내와 함께 먹었다.

그곳에서 일하는 빅토리아와도 인사를 나누었다.

그 자리, 그 사람들.

 

집에 돌아와 느끼는 편안함이 커피 향에 묻어나왔다.

역시 Home sweet home이다.

 

Returning Home

 

After stopping by several national parks from New York to Montana,
I returned home yesterday afternoon.

Exhausted, I fell into a deep sleep.

When I woke up in the morning, the sun was rising, peeking through the cloudy sky as if it had barely opened its eyes.

"Shall we go for a walk?"

At my wife's suggestion, I eagerly headed out for a walk.
The number of people on the boardwalk had noticeably decreased compared to before we left on the trip.

When we left, summer hadn't fully gone yet, but by the time we returned home, all traces of summer had vanished.
The beach, now deserted, looked pristine.

We stopped by Rockaway Roasting, as we always do, and ordered coffee and croissants to share together.
We also exchanged greetings with Victoria, who works there.

The same place, the same people.

The comfort of being back home came through in the aroma of the coffee.

Indeed, there's nothing like home sweet home.
