지영이 소식

"어제 아침 전화가 왔다.

둘째 딸 지영이에게서였다.

울먹이는 목소리로 약간 감격한 기운이 전화기를 통해 전해졌다.

오레곤 주립대 박사과정에 합격했다는 소식이었다.

우리가 Savannah에 갔을 때

지영이도 인터뷰를 위해서 그 곳에 갔다.

무언가 한 가지를 잘 못 했다고---

그래서 안 될 것 같다고 인터뷰 후기를 전했다.

가슴 졸이다 받은 합격소식이니 얼마나

반가웠을까?

지영이가 인터뷰를 잘 못했다는 이야기를 들었을 때에도

난 믿었다.

될 거라고-----

만약에 안 되면 아기를 낳을 거라는 이야기를 들었기에

오히려 안 되었으면 하는 마음도 있었다.

Plan B가 오히려 나는 더 좋았다.

두 갈래 길.

어차피 한 길 밖에 가지 못 한다.

무엇이 옳고 그른 것은 없다.

단지 선택이 있을 뿐이고

그 선택 안에서 최선을 다 하고 행복하면 그 뿐이다.

사랑하는 딸 지영아,

성공보다는 행복하기를 더 바란다.

I received  a phone call yesterday morning.

It wa from 지영 who is my second daughter.

A slight excitement was heard through the phone with a crying voice.

It was news that she passed the doctoral program at Oregon State University.

When we went to Savannah,

지영 went there for an interview.

"I did not do one thing well ---"

 

I was told so about the interview.

When I heard that 지영 did not interview well

I had a strong belief that she would make it.

I also heard that if she does not make it, she would have a baby.

I had a feeling that she would rather not make it.

Plan B was rather better for me.

There are two ways ahead of us.

Ayy one is good.

I can not go out one way anyway.

Nothing is right or wrong.

It's just a matter of choice.

If you are happy, that choice is right and good.

I hope you be rather happy than successful
