내가 패션 감각이 없다고?
내가 패션 감각이 없다고?
You Say I Have No Fashion Sense?
You say I have no fashion sense?
You're right.
Even if someone firmly tells me that I lack fashion sense,
I don't have much to argue against it, nor do I feel the need to.
It's simply the truth.
Rather than worrying about "What should I wear?"
I put much more thought and care into "What should I eat?"
That said, it's not like I completely ignore what I wear.
Depending on the temperature, whether it's raining or windy,
my choices may change slightly.
But in the end, I always go with the clothes that are closest to my reach.
So even if someone tells me I have no fashion sense,
I have no reason to argue,
nor do I feel offended or upset.
I've lived this way so far,
and I doubt my tendencies will change much in the future.
Yesterday, the weather was beautiful,
so I went on a spring outing with my son and his wife
to Domino Park by the Hudson River.
Naturally, I picked the sweater and shirt that were closest to my hands.
As for my pants—well, they were blue jeans.
(Almost 365 days a year, without question.)
The sweater was navy blue with white stripes,
a souvenir my wife bought for me in Normandy, France,
since it was a local brand from the region.
As for the shirt underneath,
I think it originally belonged to one of my sons—
a light pink and white checkered pattern.
Sure enough, my wife had something to say.
"Couldn't you wear a blue-toned shirt under the sweater instead?"
Since the sweater was navy blue and white,
she suggested that a blue shirt would pair better with my blue jeans.
Now, when my wife makes a "suggestion,"
it's not just a simple suggestion—
it carries quite a bit of weight.
But the idea of changing my shirt was just too bothersome.
It's not like keeping the pink shirt on was offensive for a spring outing,
nor did it seem like a serious fashion crime.
So, boldly, I responded, "No."
(Though I did feel like I was pushing my luck a little.)
Of course, my wife's suggestion (which, let's be honest, was more of a command)
was perfectly reasonable.
Even though I don't care much about fashion,
I couldn't say she was wrong.
But the act of changing clothes just felt too tedious.
If she had told me what to wear before I got dressed,
I might have followed her advice.
But once something is decided, I stick to it—
no turning back, no second thoughts.
And so, I added,
"This light pink color...
it matches the feeling of spring in my heart.
My shirt is in harmony with my mood."
My wife fell silent.
Now, do you still think I have no fashion sense?
The spring breeze that day was truly refreshing.
